the day a super day, and a record figure for

The Open Mic started late due to Tim the new sound man, thinking we would all have our own

guitar leads, as he had NONE!. So Thanks to Ken who let us use his lead to start the afternoon off.

A number of Royal Oak regulars joined acts like Jean, Ptarmigan, Phil, John, Anne and Mike,

Rob, Paul, Chris, Ron and Jane Jo and Tony, to name just a few. We managed to get on All of 29

acts with thanks to Bryn Phillips, who voluntered to do one number only, and the following artists

who also voluntered to do one number. They were Ray, The two hats, Hazel and Peter, Harry,

Brian & Roger, Matt and Ian. This made it so ALL artists who came got to play. .

The evening show kicked of with Pro-Tempore with Alan, Mick and Marilyn who was in fine voice.

We then had the classical Gas of  guitarist Ron Thomas, The songs and humour of the Alikats,

the superb singer songwriting of Colin Pitts and to finish the night the excellent Pete Boddis band

(feat Marilyn on vocals) this was a superb end to a great day.

Thanks also go to Cath and Frank on the door, Mary on the Tombola, Mick on guess the Rabbits

name, and of course to Marilyn Bose who organised the day, got us all moving and made it all

possible.. and of course the biggest thanks go to you who came along and supported the day and

made it all worthwhile.

Previous Oakathon Information

2011 update and review

We now have the final figure and once again for the second year running, we have made a grand total of: 1,800
for Breakthrough breast Cancer.
Thanks to all concerned including Audience, Performers and organisers.

Well once again this years Oakathon was a great success, it was a nice bright sunny day which I think put everyone in good spirits to perform well. Velvet Green kicked off the open mic at 1.00pm, and then regulars Colin & Mary, John, Rob and Dek, followed by a variety of artists all in all a total of 27 acts untill the 5.15 finish, and not an empty seat in the room.

The Evening session began with the superb 'Sons of Professor Longhair' who have now become a well established act, followed by the excellent 'East West Infusion' who play a combination of traditional folk, classical and world music.
Local duo Velvet Green played their brand of contempory folk and new acoustic music which finished the first session off before the break. Marilyns lovely sandwhiches were up for grabs, time to grab a pint and then the raffle was drawn. To kick off the second half we had talented young duo Tim Judson & Julia Disney, who played some new self penned songs and some great favourites. Tims dad Keith who is also a superb singer songwriter was next, and he played a great set of his own material accompanied by Tim. Triple echo finished the night on great form with some classic songs, and great drinking songs getting the audience singing along, an end to a super day.

Many thanks to everyone involved, and all who supported this great event.

2010 update and review.

The 2010 Oakathon was held on SATURDAY 16th October, and Paul & Sue of Velvet Green started the day at 12o'clock running the open mic. We saw some great artists which included Royal Oak regulars, and artists from as far away as Brewood, Pelsall, Birmingham etc

After a short break at 5.30, the club re-opend as the crowd gathered for the evenings entertainment  starting with Phil & Marilyn, followed by Velvet Green, Even Stevens, Tony Wall, Stool Pigeon, and to end the night Mr P Bodys coaltrain with added vocals from Marilyn.

A great nights entertainment which finished a super day and the final figure raised was

Many thanks to all people involved.

   2009 update and review.

The Oakathon 2009 was held on  October 24th this year and was yet again brilliantly supported, the room was full to the brim all day.  We can confirm that this event this year raised around 800 and together with other funds raised every Tuesday on normal club nights, a cheque for 1500 will be sent to Breakthrough.

The day started at mid day and the 'Folk Club' type open mike started at 1pm.  This was run by Terry Pitt and went on to 5.50m.  During this time we had an incredible 27 performers and the standard was exceptional by everyone who played.

Graham did us proud yet again with his expertise on PA and sound.

The evening sesion started at 7pm and featured Triple Echo, Billy Spakemon and Lozz Hipkiss, Anne Adams and Steve Grosvenor, Paul Walker, Dave Love and Bedlam.

Thanks go out also to Kath Pitt and Dave Rogers for doing the photographs of the artists, and for Mary for running the tombola.

Have a look at the gallery for the pics.

A massive thanks from the club organisers Marilyn and Phil go out to everyone who made this event possible. Without your support this could not be possible.

2008 update and review.

The Oakathon 2008 was a brilliant day and very well supported.   Overall the day raised about 1200 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity.
